From Excitement to Exhaustion - and Back to Growth
Every journey starts with excitement – new possibilities, new challenges, and a dream of success. But when the excitement fades, reality begins to test your determination. This is my honest story of starting at Dreamport – from
curiosity and hope to the grind, growth, and everything in between.
Every dream looks shiny from the outside. You picture victories, freedom, recognition. But step inside and the story changes. That’s when reality knocks and whispers, welcome to the grind.
That’s exactly how Dreamport unfolded for me. I came in with hope and excitement about breaking into the travel and tours industry. After onboarding, introductions, and the adrenaline of starting something new, the honeymoon phase ended.
The real test began: long training hours, endless roleplays, confusion, doubt. More than once I asked myself, am I really cut out for this?
Looking back, I wouldn’t trade that phase for anything. It shaped me, humbled me, and pushed me. Most importantly, it proved the only way forward was through Consistency.
Training wasn’t light. It was boot camp. Hours of sales psychology, customer handling, travel systems, compliance, and etiquette. My head buzzed by the end of each day.
To survive, I kept a thick journal where I wrote everything: scripts, trainer notes, even reminders to smile before answering. Writing kept me focused, sharpened my attention, and forced me to be detailed.
It was exhausting, but slowly I saw progress.
At first, I coasted. Showing up, taking notes, blending in. Then it hit me: I had already invested so much time. Could I afford to waste all that effort? That realization fueled me.
I rehearsed scripts in front of the mirror, recorded myself, volunteered during sessions, shadowed peers, and created flashcards for objections.
Roleplays that once scared me became practice grounds. Confidence crept in and I began to carry myself like someone determined to succeed.
Then came the assessment phase, the final checkpoint before the sales floor. My date was set and panic kicked in. What if I blank out? What if I fail?
To prepare, I practiced nonstop, tested myself in everyday conversations, and refined my tone. The nerves never left but they kept me sharp.
On assessment day, I sat with my laptop and journal nearby. My stomach twisted, palms sweated, heartbeat raced.
Then the call began. Hi Chacha, let’s get started. My heart sank, but I pushed through.
I wasn’t flawless, but I was present, resilient, and ready.
Did I pass? Did I stumble? Sip of tea. That’s a story for my next post.
For now, let’s just say: the assessment didn’t break me, it built me.
Dreamport is not easy. It’s a grind, a filter, a growth engine. Many quit when reality hits. But if you stick it out, the rewards are real.
My advice? Don’t quit when it gets tough. Write, practice, embrace feedback.
The reality check is real, but so is the growth. And this is only the beginning. Stay tuned.
✨ Teaser: In my next post, I’ll take you behind the scenes of what happened after the assessment my first real leads, my first wins, and the unexpected lessons that came with stepping onto the sales floor.
