Anyone who has worked in a fast-paced customer role knows it can get intense. But coordinating flight bookings? That’s a whole new category of emotional rollercoaster – where patience, strong coffee, and a good sense of humor are your best friends.

When I joined Dreamport’s Business Flights Team under the advising of Severine, I thought I had it all figured out. In my head, the position was simple: find a good fare, share it with the client, confirm, and book. Easy, right? Fast-forward eight months, and I can confidently say – not quite! Searching for the best routes is a unique blend of detective work, psychology, and a touch of magic. Because while every client wants a “cheap ticket,” their idea of cheap often belongs to a time before inflation… or maybe before fuel surcharges were invented.

Every call feels like a new adventure. Some clients are clear and organized, with dates, destinations, and even preferred airlines ready. Others, well, they’re still deciding between visiting their cousin in Toronto or their aunt in Dubai — both next week, both with “budget options.” And then there are the classic ones: the clients who want to fly during Christmas but pay like it’s February. That’s when you take a deep breath, sip your third coffee, and politely explain that even magic has its limits.

I’ve learned that consulting on flights isn’t just about finding the right seat – it’s about building the right connection. It’s about turning a confusing process into a conversation of trust. I often find myself explaining why prices fluctuate, why flexibility matters, or how one day’s difference can save hundreds. Some clients appreciate the transparency, while others say, “Let me check with my cousin first,” and disappear into the travel void forever. But no matter what, professionalism never wavers – because in this business, your tone sells before your ticket does.

Of course, not every day is smooth sailing. There are moments when systems lag, fares vanish, or clients demand miracles five minutes before midnight. There are follow-ups that lead nowhere and calls that test your patience more than anything else. But that’s the beauty and chaos of the role – it keeps you sharp, humble, and weirdly addicted to the thrill of the next “yes.”

And then, there are the wins –  the reason we all stay hooked. That glorious moment when a client says, “Let’s book it!” and you hit that confirmation button – pure joy. You might not see it, but behind the screen, there’s always a mini victory dance happening. Because each closed deal isn’t just a number –  it’s someone’s reunion, honeymoon, business milestone, or long-awaited vacation finally taking flight.

Operating at Dreamport has taught me that consulting success isn’t only measured in profit, but in patience and persistence. It’s about learning to smile through rejections, to adapt your pitch with every client, and to find satisfaction in small victories. Every call sharpens your instinct; every “no” teaches you resilience.

So yes, searching for flights can absolutely test your sanity. But it also builds character. It teaches empathy, timing, communication – and maybe most importantly, the art of keeping calm while juggling ten tabs and three client follow-ups.

At the end of the day, every booking we provide carries a story – a piece of someone’s dream. And helping them reach it? That’s the art worth mastering.
